About Barbara Burns
Barbara Burns boasts nearly 30 years in education, primarily as a history and government teacher at Denton and Ryan High Schools. Her dedication to education extends beyond the classroom, evident in her active involvement in student organizations and mentoring teachers from Ukraine.
Serving as a Trustee on the School Board since 2012, she has contributed significantly, including leadership roles and participation in community organizations like the League of Women Voters and Denton Noon Kiwanis. Burns’ belief in education as an investment underscores her commitment to student success and community development.
About Sheryl English
Sheryl English has served as a Trustee on the DISD School Board since 2021 and is an experienced Realtor® and community advocate with over 29 years of experience.
As the owner of Blackjack Realty Group, she has a history of leadership in Denton, serving on the Denton Chamber of Commerce board and as Chair of the Denton Housing Authority’s Board of Commissioners. English is the first black woman to serve on both boards.
She holds degrees from North Central Texas College and Texas Woman’s University. Actively engaged in community service, she contributes to various organizations including the Denton Public School Foundation and the City of Denton Police Advisory Committee.
